Case 3: Flower protection

Question
One of our clients wanted to reduce the damage of the flowers during transports. The flowers are transported in buckets that, when loaded into trucks for transport, cause bunches of flowers to graze and damage each other. Our client asked us to come up with a solid board application to the standard buckets, without making these buckets obsolete or changing the basic transport method.

Solution
After extensive testing in cooperation with the flower auction, growers and transporters we came up with a solution that is placed upon the buckets at the grower. This box straightens the bunches, thus keeping them from getting damaged. As a result the former waste percentage of 8% was reduced to almost nothing.

In a nutshell
  • Product: flowers
  • Location: flower grower, The Netherlands
  • Application: specially designed addition to existing bucket
  • Result: substantial waste reduction
